GLADYS CITY WELCOMES HORSES FROM ACROSS SOUTHEAST TEXASYount-Lee Equestrian Day Celebrates Second Spindletop Boom
BEAUMONT – Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown, on the Lamar University campus, will celebrate Yount-Lee Equestrian Day on Nov. 16, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., with a day dedicated to learning about different breeds of horses.
"The Younts became famous in both Texas and Kentucky for their American Saddlebred horses," said museum director Mark Osborne. "By welcoming a variety of owners and their horses to Gladys City, we have a unique opportunity to share another exciting chapter in the Spindletop story."
Special guests include the return of the popular American Saddlebred horses from Bluebonnet Farm in Bellville, and therapy horses from Stable Spirit in Rose City. Local 4-H member Casey Ling will give riding demonstrations on her Quarter Horse and discuss the equipment, or tack, involved in riding. Also new, this year, will be Danita Morgan and "Button," a registered therapy miniature horse from Newton, plus Thoroughbreds and western horses. The blacksmith's forge also will be fired up, and children will be able to hammer out their own horseshoe nail.
Admission is free and the event is open to the public. Spindletop-Gladys City Boomtown is located on Hwy. 69 at Jimmy Simmons Blvd. in Beaumont. Plenty of free parking is available. For more information, please call (409) 880-1750 or contact the museum at gladyscityinfo@gmail.com.
