Cooling My Heels at Boykin Springs

IMG_0930, originally uploaded by Texas Forest Trail.
One of East Texas's best-kept secrets is back! After sustaining major damage in Hurricane Rita and then again in Ike before it could re-open, this spring-fed forest wonderland has re-opened with it's tiered wading pools, swimming, pristine camp sites, and hiking trails. Though not quite 100% finished, Boykin Springs is a work-in-progress but well worth the $3 day use fee or $6 camping fee.

Boykin Springs Recreation Area is located in the Angelina National Forest, about 10 miles east of Zavalla on state highway 63.
